This unplugged lesson is the first of eight that explore AI (artificial intelligence). Students identify whether familiar technology uses AI or not, and evaluate the language used to describe AI.

Later lessons use micro:bit CreateAI, a free tool for teaching about ML (machine learning) through movement on the BBC micro:bit, to build an AI exercise timer.

The unit includes a student workbook available as a download in Lesson 1 – it contains all required and optional worksheets for the unit. You can print it or share a digital version using Word or Google Docs. Alternatively, you can choose to use individual worksheets available in each lesson download.

This lesson download also includes an optional unplugged reflection activity that encourages students to add notes about their learning as they progress through the unit. It is available as a printable worksheet or in PowerPoint to complete digitally. If sharing digitally, make sure you remove the teacher examples page.
