Exploring ML: evaluating data

Lesson 3 of 8

CreateAI, MakeCode

11-14 yrs

This is the third of eight lessons exploring AI or machine learning (ML). This is the first lesson in the unit that uses micro:bit CreateAI, a free tool for teaching about ML using movement data on the BBC micro:bit.

Students open a ready-made CreateAI project, then add their own movement data for a simple AI exercise timer.

This lesson download includes required and optional materials, see lists below.

Teacher demonstration worksheets for use with CreateAI are included in this lesson download. Teachers can print these to refer to when demonstrating how to use CreateAI during lessons 3, 4, 7 or 8.

Required materials for this lesson:

  • Lesson plan
  • Slides

Optional resources included in this lesson download:

  • Data samples CreateAI worksheet
  • Teacher demonstration sheets

Key learning:

  • I understand ML (machine learning) models need training data.
  • I can use an accelerometer to collect movement data samples.
  • I can clean data to help my model work well.
