Our project

The Utensil Gadget, created by a team of students in San Diego, is a stabilizing utensil device designed to support individuals with Parkinson’s-related tremors. Developed in collaboration with their community partner, Ms. Jean—who shared how tremors made eating a daily challenge—the Utensil Gadget uses gentle vibrations to counteract involuntary movements and improve hand stability. Its design includes interchangeable attachments for various utensils, making it adaptable for different meals and user preferences. By empowering individuals to eat more independently and confidently, the Utensil Gadget offers a simple yet powerful solution to restore dignity and ease at the dining table.

Our inspiration

Students were inspired to create the Utensil Gadget after interviewing their Community Partner, Ms. Jean, and learning about the challenges that Parkinson's causes with daily tasks such as eating.
