Our project

It's estimated that more than 20 million children are hospitalized worldwide each year. Hospitalization causes problems such as fear, anxiety, sadness, or feelings of abandonment. We're trying to make children's time in the hospital less traumatic with our robot, Helpie, helping them calm down and entertain themselves before surgery. Helpie works with 2 micro:bits to control the head, arms, and eyes. Stories and songs play from speakers in his head. The robot's eyes can be animated to show hearts or appear happy or silly. We have also designed accessories to decorate the robot.

Our inspiration

We first started by choosing a topic from the SDGs, for which we debated for a while, but finally we decided to make a companion robot for hospitalized children because one of our colleagues had to be in the hospital and had to undergo surgery. It was a little scary so we decided to solve this with our project.
