Global goals

SDG 14 Life Below Water

Our project

Our goal with this project is to care for the environment and preserve our own existence. We studied SDG 14 for our Science Fair. We watched several videos and debated in class, and what impacted us most was the fact that there is a continent of garbage in the Pacific Ocean, which is called the seventh continent.Based on classroom discussions, we decided to make a prototype of a boat capable of cleaning marine debris. We then separated the materials (Lego pieces and recyclables) and used motors, shields, and a micro:bit board to power the motors and for remote control, using the radio function in MakeCode, and after that we built it.Before testing the cleaner, we conducted buoyancy tests to check if the weight of the electronic components would cause the prototype to sink.We made several videos for our science fair and through this we discovered the importance of disposing of waste in appropriate places. We also saw the need and urgency of taking care of the oceans and how we can contribute.

Our inspiration

Based on classroom discussions, we decided to build a prototype boat capable of cleaning up marine debris.

BotSona

Brazil

BotSona is a robot inspired by the legend of the Pink River Dolphin that protects marine life from the loud sounds of ships. It uses sensors and the micro:bit board to detect noises in the ocean and send alerts to navigators, helping to preserve the sound balance of the seas.

Students pose holding micro:bits in their classroom.

The Sensory Helper uses the micro:bit to help children with auditory hypersensitivity.

Students pose with their Evapotranspiration Project prototype.

This project uses micro:bits to simulate wind power, control lights, and monitor humidity in an evapotranspiration toilet.
