Our project

Students developed La Hearties, a wearable device designed to detect abnormal heartbeats and provide real-time support for individuals experiencing anxiety, panic attacks, or daily stress. The device monitors the user’s heart rate, flashes alerts when irregularities are detected, and offers calming guidance to regulate breathing and prevent hyperventilation. By combining practical health monitoring with accessible mental health support, the device empowers users to manage stressful moments with greater ease and confidence. In creating La Hearties, students partnered with their school’s Psychiatric Social Worker to better understand the challenges individuals face when living with anxiety and panic attacks. This collaboration allowed the team to design a solution that is not only technologically innovative but also rooted in compassion and responsive to real community needs.

Our inspiration

Students worked directly with their school's Psychiatric Social Worker as their Community Partner. Through this collaboration, they learned about the challenges that some individuals face regarding anxiety and panic attacks. La Hearties was created to directly and positively impact individuals that may experience these challenges.
