Our project

As the saying goes, 'bumper harvest but not bumper income.' Farmers work hard for a good harvest, but due to low market prices or lack of sales channels, they cannot increase their income, and may even suffer losses.

As the saying goes, 'make the best use of talents and resources,' avoiding the waste of 'one bad apple spoils the whole bunch.'

FruitSort is a fruit quality classifier based on micro:bit + Huskylens AI camera + 2 servo motors.

Through the 'FruitSort' device, utilizing AI machine vision, it automatically identifies fruit quality → sorts → enables tiered sales → reduces labor costs and increases income.

Future goals: In addition to the sorting function, IoT capabilities will be integrated in the future to quantify crop yields. This will help small farmers coordinate planting plans, solve the problem of 'cheap grain hurting farmers,' increase income, and reduce agricultural product waste.

Future Roadmap: Beyond sorting, we aim to integrate IoT capabilities to quantify harvest data. This will enable smallholder farmers to coordinate planting schedules, preventing price crashes caused by oversupply ("The Paradox of Plenty"), ultimately boosting income and minimizing agricultural waste.

Dilemmas faced by fruit farmers:

- Prices plummet during bumper harvests, often requiring the destruction of crops.

- Middlemen suppress prices, lacking bargaining power.

- Lack of technology makes it difficult to quickly and accurately grade fruit quality.

Dilemmas faced by consumers:

- Some fruits rot early, affecting food safety.

Our inspiration

There is a common paradox in agriculture: "High yields, low profits." Despite hard work, farmers often face financial losses due to market saturation or poor distribution channels.
