Tech for Teachers Awards 2018

The BBC micro:bit was a four-star winner in the Computing category of the Tech for Teachers Awards 2018.

Launched in 2018, the awards celebrate the very best classroom innovations, judged in seven curriculum-linked categories – maths, English, science, modern foreign languages, STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), computing and the arts. Within every category there's a five, four and three-star winner, as well as two further finalists.

Entries were judged on five important criteria:

  • Innovation: is this product genuinely new, exciting and ground-breaking?
  • Benefits to teaching and learning: will it have real impact?
  • Long-term potential: will it have longevity in the classroom?
  • Value for money
  • User-friendliness: how easy is it for a non-techy teacher to get started?

The micro:bit was deemed to be a really useful classroom resource, winning a place on the final list of 35 prize-winning edtech innovations.
