Paraphrasing quantitative information with survey data logger

Individual lesson

MakeCode

7-11 yrs

Students will use the BBC micro:bit as a data logger to collect observation data from their environment. For example, they might log data related to different modes of transportation to school, or litter on the school grounds. They will connect the micro:bit to a computer and then paraphrase the visual preview of data collected.

This activity may require an additional 45-60 minutes to fully engage students in creating the data logger and in collecting and analysing survey data.

Data literacy:

Collecting data

Interpreting data

Literacy:

Speaking & listening

Overall key learning

Learning objectives are at three different levels:

  • Mild - I can paraphrase quantitative data collected using the micro:bit traffic survey data logger.
  • Medium - I can modify my own micro:bit traffic survey data logger program to collect and paraphrase quantitative data.
  • Spicy - I can create my own micro:bit traffic survey data logger program to collect and paraphrase quantitative data.
