Micro:bit in class

We're a non-profit who's mission is to have real world impact beyond the typical demographics that work in STEM. We commission research to check if are meeting this mission.

Micro:bit book project

Coding isn't just about going to a computing class! The micro:bit has projects that are great for all subjects including Design Technology, Physics and Art and Music classes.

Although we started in the UK, the micro:bit is now available in class rooms across the world. As new research from different sources becomes available it will be published on this page.

UK Research Findings

The BBC commissioned an impact study after giving away up to one million BBC micro:bits for free to:

  • Every year 7 student in England and Wales
  • Every year 8 student in Northern Ireland
  • Every S1 student in Scotland.
The impact study found that... [BBC]:

  • Sentance et al., “Creating cool stuff” – Pupils’ experience of the BBC micro:bit, Kings College London

You can find our more in the BBC press release. The Foundation is now working on a new UK study. If you received micro:bits in the the original project and would like to get involved, please contact us.
