Our project
The School cool (S-cool) project aims to motivate students to recycle and dispose of waste in a smart way. Our task is to solve the problem of a large amount of waste in the school yard and school premises. Playing with technology, we created:
-ECO:BIT recycling machine for plastic, paper and batteries that will count how many pieces of waste children dispose of. This activity is rewarding. For each discarded waste, the children will receive prizes in the form of a character, then badges, and finally the department will receive a flag for the results achieved.
-The organic:bit bin is intended for children to separate organic waste by depositing it in the eco garden in our backyard creating compost.
-The CREA:BIT basket is the result of creativity associated with technology and micro:bit. The creative basket will use music to "call" children to smart waste disposal and will reward them with music at the end. This code was created by a girl with special educational needs. The model of the creative basket will be made in a large format, which will be located in the school hall, as well as in the school yard.
-At the end of the project, the children created a recycled instrument (synthesizer) from tin cans using a unique micro:bit code, applying their knowledge of conductivity.
During the project, we integrated STEM subjects: computer science, mathematics, nature, then language, as well as art (music and visual arts) in order to make the knowledge functional and usable.
For us, technology has been fun in the truest sense and we are very happy to use it. And the project will continue through our ECO section.
Our inspiration
The students were inspired by the desire to make their school and surroundings cleaner and more environmentally responsible. They noticed how much waste accumulates in the school corridors and yard every day, but also how many students are not aware of the importance of recycling. They realized that with a little effort they can change the habits of their peers and contribute to the preservation of nature.
