Our project

The Smart Tunnel Lighting system, powered by micro:bit technology and motion sensors, operates by continually monitoring tunnel interiors for vehicle motion. When a car enters the tunnel, the system promptly activates tunnel lights, ensuring proper illumination for safe passage. It maintains this lighting as long as motion is detected and employs gradual dimming when no motion is sensed, conserving energy. Additionally, a manual override is available for emergencies or maintenance

Our inspiration

In Ghana, our current tunnel lighting practices are not environmentally friendly or safe for drivers, as they remain constantly illuminated, regardless of actual traffic conditions, wasting energy and posing safety risks. To align with Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 9, there's an urgent need for an intelligent tunnel lighting system that adjusts light levels based on real-time traffic, conserving energy while ensuring road safety, and creating a more sustainable infrastructure.
