In this intermediate activity, students design a flashing wheel light to help improve road safety for their chosen user.

Background:

It is assumed students have first completed the safety challenge introductory lesson and are completing the Flashing Wheels activity as an example resource before creating their own safety innovation for the global challenge. Some experience of computational thinking, designing algorithms using pseudocode and programming using iteration, loops, selection and variables is assumed, though the resource can be completed as an introduction with extra time allocated where necessary, or you may prefer to use the Night Sensor introductory activity.

In this intermediate activity, students design a flashing wheel light to help improve road safety for their chosen user. The example takes them through creating an easy to attach light for a wheelchair user and students use their creativity to create their own user persona and design a wheel light for their use. They learn core computational thinking and product design concepts and use pseudocode, flowcharts, iteration, loops, selection and variables.
