Joseph won the Global Challenge for the Africa region with his health monitor for school children. The device quickly alerts teachers if somebody in their class has a high temperature. Joseph designed the device to help limit the time children spent away from school due to ill health. Joseph’s Global Challenge win was celebrated at the Teens Can Code event in Lagos, Nigeria in March 2019.
Joseph was introduced to the micro:bit at school by his ICT teacher.
Joseph’s health monitor can be worn by every child in a classroom and links to one micro:bit held by the teacher. The data received on the teacher’s micro:bit is transferred into a bar chart in Microsoft Excel. Joseph read that having a high temperature is often the first symptom of disease and so he wanted to create something to make sure people are treated promptly.
